Covid-19 Cases Break Records as Omicron Spreads Across the world

With the emergence of the new Corona virus variant, the number of cases has jumped to new heights. Omicron variant is driving COVID-19 cases to next level highs, with worldwide infections reaching a record million cases per day. While the Cases Break Records as Omicron variant strengthens its grip across the world, there are some countries that have to be extra cautious due to the increased surge.

With the rising cases, the death toll has still not risen at the same pace yet. Bringing home the variant is less lethal, but the cases are rising at an uncountable speed. Some countries like the United States, Germany, and France are growing increasingly worried about the skyrocketing cases. This third wave of COVID-19 is putting additional pressure not only on the health system but also on all the sectors of society.

Amidst the increasing Cases Break Records as Omicron, airlines, schools, and businesses are curbing operations because they lack fit and healthy workers. The government of every country is encouraging people to work remotely and step out of their houses only when extremely necessary.

Despite the advanced technology and high-end gadgets, prolific doctors have still not found any way to determine which variant of the corona virus a patient is carrying. The prominent U.S. doctors are still not able to identify which COVID-19 variant is lurking in the patient’s body. This distinction could mean the difference between life and death.

The high-risk patients carrying the Delta variant can get an efficient monoclonal antibody treatment that is proven to reduce hospitalization and deaths all over the world. The Cases Break Records as Omicron will only respond to the third antibody treatment, but unfortunately, it is in a very short supply.

While U.S. officials have endorsed using a workaround test, it can help greatly in identifying the Omicron’s genetic signature. Experts say that it is not feasible for massive health systems since they are facing a crush of patients to employ in each case. This is the foremost reason which makes the treatment of patients impossible and poses a challenge to the entire health care facility of the world.

While there are no approved tests to determine each individual’s variant, a national network to state and other labs use genome-sequencing tests in order to track variants broadly in various communities. Health care systems further use these regional estimates or their own data to decide which antibody treatments to use in their clinics and hospitals.

Germany’s catastrophic situation

Michael Weber, the president of the German senior hospital doctors association, said that the Omicron variant could ease pressure on the German health system if it turned out to produce milder illness, even though infections were rising.

“There is a realistic probability that the pandemic will also become endemic in this country,” Dr. Weber told the Welt am Sonntag newspaper.

Germany’s Health Minister, Karl Lauterbach, has also expressed optimism that Omicron seems to be less dangerous than previous variants, but he noted it still posed a risk to older people who were not vaccinated.

Verticle Increase in Cases in the U.S.

Despite the researches indicating that the Omicron variant is less severe than Delta, the community spread of the Omicron variant has commenced in the U.S. as well. According to Dr. Fauci, a top U.S. infectious expert, saw a “vertical increase” of new cases, now averaging 400,000 cases a day, with hospitalizations also up.

“The acceleration of cases that we’ve seen is unprecedented, gone well beyond anything we’ve seen before,” he said.

“The only difficulty is that if you have so many cases, even if the rate of hospitalization is lower with Omicron than it is with Delta, there is still the danger that you will have a surging of hospitalizations that might stress the healthcare system,” he said.

U.K.: Searching Ways To Increase Testing

The contingency plans are in the making by the U.K. government. This contingency plan has been made if schools, hospitals, and other workplaces are hit by major staff shortages amid the country’s Cases Break Records as Omicron spike in corona virus infections.

The public sector workplaces have been preparing for staff absence ranging from 10% to 25% as COVID-19 tightens its grip on more population, forcing them to isolate.
